Princess Diana has “royal ambitions” from a young age, as she grew up adjacent to the aristocracy in a well-respected family, a commentator has claimed. Diana grew up knowing multiple members of the Royal Family, Queen Elizabeth II was her brother’s godmother. After just 13 dates, her “fantasy” had come true when she married Prince Charles in 1981. 

Speaking on Royally US, author Elizabeth Holmes discussed the Princess with hosts.

Molly Mulshine said: “So one thing that Diana, Kate, and Meghan have in common is that they all married into the Royal Family, and whenever it happens there are rumours about how premeditated it is.”

“Can you tell us, did Diana really have a poster of Prince Charles in her bedroom?”

Elizabeth revealed: “The one little fact that I think about with Diana, is that she had the nickname Duch as a kid, short for Duchess.”

“I think that she did have royal aspirations.”

“If you rewind to the late 70s and 80s when Diana hit the scene, Price Charles was the world’s most eligible bachelor.”

“He was the heir to the throne, he was a sort of stud. Everybody wanted to marry Charles.”

“Diana had that royal proximity, her family was just next to the Royal Family.”

Diana first met Charles when he briefly dated her sister, Sarah Spencer after they met at the Royal Ascot house party at Windsor.

Later that year, Charles properly met Diana when Sarah invited him to the family home at Althorp.

It was reported that the short relationship ended after Sarah told reporters she would not marry the Prince “if he were the dustman or the King of England”.

In royal book, The Diana I Knew, author Mary Robertson wrote that she and Diana joked about her marrying Prince Charles.

In her book, she wrote that she was “was worried that Diana’s infatuation with Charles was ‘based on her romantic image of him, not on the man himself.”

Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated in 1992, and formally divorced in 1996. 

In August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, died from injuries she sustained in a car crash in Paris.
