The Royal has an A-Level in the subject and went on to study the History of Art along with English Literature and Politics at Newcastle University. The younger daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew recently appeared on an episode of Sky’s Inside Art. Filmed in December 2020, the programme explores the current exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, “Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace.”

Eugenie shared with presenter Kate Bryan how her love for art was sparked by a particular painting in the Royal Collection.

When she was sixteen and studying for her A-levels, she was given a private tour of the collection by one of the curators.

Her attention was drawn to a painting by Federico Zuccaro, known commonly as “Calumny of Apelles.”

“I actually studied a painting from the Royal Collection at school when I was 16,” she explained.

“Some of the great people at the Royal Collection showed me around and I chose it.

“It was the first time I’d really delved into the collection.

“Looking at that painting in this gallery was definitely my first ‘moment’.”

The 31-year-old also revealed that she had once dreamed of becoming an artist herself.

Unfortunately, she never got further in her ambitions than making papier mâché presents for her parents.
