The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are living in California having stepped down from front line royal duties in March 2020. Addressing US Weekly a source claimed: “Eugenie is really the only member of the Royal Family that Meghan is still close to.”

They claimed the two young royals had “bonded” over the experiences of pregnancy and motherhood.

Eugenie gave birth to her son, August Brooksbank, on February 9 at London’s Portland Hospital.

Only five days later a spokesman for the Sussexes announced Meghan is pregnant.

The Duchess gave birth to her first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6 2019.

Meghan and Eugenie both got married in Windsor Castle’s St George’s chapel, with their weddings taking place just months apart.

Harry and Meghan’s wedding was broadcast around the world to a live audience of hundreds of millions.

Eugenie’s wedding, to wine trader Jack Brooksbank, was also televised in the UK on ITV.

Harry has long enjoyed a close relationship with Eugenie according to royal insiders Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who wrote a book about the Sussexes’ departure from front line royal life.

They claimed: “Out of all the queen’s grandchildren, Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry have one of the most natural connections.

“Like Harry, Eugenie is loyal, honest and great fun.

“The two had many nights out together in London, sneaking into back entrances of clubs, such as Mahiki, where Jack once was manager, or Tonteria, where in one of the VIP cave areas they downed shots from Mexican skull-shaped glasses and a giant frozen margarita (with multiple straws).”

Both Harry and Eugenie, Prince Andrew’s youngest daughter, had to contend with being lower down the royal pecking order than their older sibling.

According to Mr Scobie and Ms Durand, this relative outsider status helped the two royals’ bond.

They wrote: “Like Harry, Eugenie also struggled to carve out her own identity growing up.

“Not being a senior royal meant that she had to go out into the world and find her own path, which she had done.”

The authors claimed this close relationship meant Eugenie was “one of the first” to find out about Harry’s relationship with Meghan when the couple started dating in 2016.

They claimed: “Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life.

“Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends said that she gives great advice and has always been ‘beyond wise’ for her years.

“It’s not surprising then that Eugenie was one of the first in the family to know about his relationship with Meghan.”

On Sunday a two-hour interview Oprah Winfrey recorded with the Sussexes is scheduled to be broadcast.

In a promotional clip Harry admitted, with reference to his mother, he was scared of “history repeating itself” with Meghan.

He added: “It’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we have each other.”
