Greene King is offering free drinks to pubgoers who share a surname with any of the 50 members of the England and Wales FIFA World Cup squads. Punters can grab a free pint, a bottle of Ice Breaker Pale Ale or an alternative soft drink at more than 800 participating pubs.

Any potential customer hoping to take advantage of the limited-time deal will need to show their photo ID at the bar during a live group game involving either the Three Lions or Dragons.

England will kick off their campaign on November 21 at 1pm when Gareth Southgate’s men take on Iran.

Wales will have to wait a little longer to end their 64-year World Cup hiatus as they take on the United States just a few hours after at 7pm.

The two Home Nations return to action on November 25 when Wales take on Iran and England face the USA.

England and Wales will then meet in the final round of group matches for the fourth all-British fixture in the last three major international tournaments.

The two teams clashed in the 2016 European Championships in France when a stoppage-time Daniel Sturridge winner ensured the Three Lions claimed a 2-1 victory.

England’s last Home Nations clash in a major tournament came in Euro 2020 when Scotland played out a goalless draw at Wembley Stadium.

Greene King will be showing every England and Wales match of the tournament at sports pubs nationwide.

Chris Conchie, head of marketing for Greene King sport, said: “Any international football tournament is a major event for fans, and since the success of the Lionesses earlier this year, all eyes are on the men’s teams this winter.

“This limited-time offer is more than just a free drink, it’s a chance for us, as your home of pub sport, to provide the best environment for people to come and show their support right across the UK for our England and Wales stars as they pursue glory at the highest level of international football.”

To grab a free pint at your nearest Greene King pub you must have one of the following surnames:
