Queen Camilla centre stage after watching special ballet perform

Queen Camilla takes centre stage with young ballet dancers after watching special performance for the Elmhurst Ballet School’s 100th anniversary. In a newly-released picture from the visit, the Queen Consort looked delighted as she stood among current students, staff and alumni.

The royal was welcomed by Jessica Ward, the Principal at Elmhurst Ballet School.

People also in attendance to welcome the 75-year-old patron included Wayne McGregor, who is a newly-appointed President of Elmhurst and multi-award winning choreographer and director of Studio Wayne McGregor, as well as former ballet dancer Carlos Acosta.

Whilst at the ballet school, which is located in Birmingham, Camilla was treated to a short performance in celebration of the anniversary.

The newly-released formal photograph includes all 200 students, including graduate students from the ‘Class of 2023’.

During the anniversary visit, Camilla also took the time to unveil a special plaque, which sits within the school’s Centenary Commemorative Wall.

The special display depicts a timeline of key memories from the school’s 100-year history.

Elmhurst Ballet School is a world-renowned dance establishment, priding itself with association to Birmingham Ballet School.

The school was founded in 1923 in Camberley, Surrey.

The royal’s last visit to the school came in January 2020, just weeks shy of the Covid pandemic.

During her visit three years ago, Camilla got a tour of the school’s Health and Wellbeing centre.

Birmingham has been its site since it relocated from Surrey in 2004.
