As Christmas approaches, the Royal Family’s festive traditions are set to return. The Queen is expected to host the annual Royal Family Christmas lunch next week. It is thought that the event will take place at Windsor Castle, where she has stayed for most of the pandemic.

However, the rise in Omicron Covid cases is said to have cast some doubt on whether it will go ahead.

The usual royal Christmas celebrations, like many around the UK, were cancelled last year.

But this did not stop Her Majesty from continuing in the tradition of buying her family a range of thoughtful gifts.

Last year, Prince Harry revealed the Christmas present she bought his two-year-old son, Archie, during one of his early broadcast interviews with James Corden.

The gift was ordered by the Queen and sent to the Sussexes home in LA after it was suggested by Meghan Markle.

It left James completely baffled as he and Harry toured around the city on an open top bus.

He asked Harry about fatherhood, his new life in America and quitting the Royal Family.

Speaking about the gift, he said: “My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker.

“So she sent us a waffle maker for Archie, so for breakfast now Meg makes a beautiful organic mix, in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes.

“He loves it. And now I have waffles for breakfast, a bit of yoghurt, a bit of jam on top.

“I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do. Berries, a bit of honey.”

Here, James interrupted him, and said: “Sorry you’re glossing over the fact that I cannot for the life of me imagine the Queen ordering a waffle maker to be sent to Santa Barbara.

“I can’t get my head around it.”

Harry replied: “I don’t even know how to comment on that.

“Archie wakes up in the morning and literally just goes ‘waffle?’.”

This year, Meghan and Harry will be spending their first Christmas with their second child, Lilibet, who was born in June.

The Queen, meanwhile, will spend her first Christmas without Prince Philip in 73 years.

He sadly passed away in April aged 99, with Harry returning to the UK to attend his funeral.

Harry, Meghan and their small family are unlikely to partake in the royal festive celebrations this year.

Neither the Queen, nor any of the other members of the Firm, have met Lilibet in person yet.

Much has been said about whether she might be taken to the UK for the first time for her christening, a beloved tradition among Royal Family members, with the Queen as the head of the Church of England.

Archie was christened in a low-key ceremony in 2019 at Windsor Castle, baptised with holy water from the River Jordan.
