The Queen’s favourite drink could be the “secret” behind her old age, royal commentators have claimed. The monarch is famously known to enjoy Dubonnet, a sweet, aromatised wine-based aperitif. Noah Rothbaum, one of the world’s leading cocktail experts, spoke to the Royally Obsessed podcast about the Royal Family’s drink choices.

He told listeners: “The origin story for the Queen’s love of Dubonnet is a really interesting thing.

“I don’t know if what I’ve heard is true.

“But supposedly the Queen always carries a bottle of Dubonnet with her.

“I don’t know if it’s in her purse or what.”

Host Roberta Fiorito added: “The secret to longevity maybe.”

The Queen likes her drinks two parts Dubonnet and one part gin.

This also includes two cubes of ice and a lemon slice.

She reportedly has this before lunch every day.

The beverage was also the favourite drink of her mother.

The Queen Mother used to make hers with 30 percent gin, 70 percent Dubonnet and a slice of lemon under the ice.

The late royal was once noted to have said before a trip: “I think that I will take two small bottles of Dubonnet and gin with me this morning, in case it is needed.”

The Queen’s former personal chef, Darren McGrady, spoke to CNN about her favourite tipple.

He clarified that the monarch does not “wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic”.

Mr McGrady said: “She’d be pickled if she drank that much.

“All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet.

“That’s her favourite drink.”
