Meghan and Sophie Wessex seem frosty at commonwealth service
Two videos of Meghan Markle interacting with members of the Royal Family on her last day as a senior royal have resurfaced and are going viral, as the videos have been viewed over five million times on TikTok. People have speculated that the moment appears quite “awkward”.
Meghan’s body language towards Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh during her last engagement as a senior member of the Royal Family has caused the TikTok storm.
Both Meghan and her husband Prince Harry’s last royal commitment took place on March 9 2020 at Westminister Abbey when they attended the annual Commonwealth Day church service.
In one video, Meghan and Harry are sitting next to his uncle, Prince Edward, now the Duke of Edinburgh. The couple is seen chatting, smiling and laughing with Prince Edward.
Meanwhile, Sophie, who is sitting next to Prince Edward, is staring in the opposite direction away from Harry and Meghan while not engaging with the Sussexes at all.
In another video on the same occasion at Westminister Abbey, Sophie continues to stare away from Meghan but then turns around and appears to turn around and makes eye contact with Meghan.
It appears the two royal women glance at each other before Meghan turns her head down to look at her hands, while Sophie looks away and begins rubbing her neck with her hand.
The video footage is captioned: “The look that scared the hell out of Meghan Markle.”
The video has gained a lot of engagement online, and people in the comment section appear to have interpreted the interaction as being awkward.
Some comments have said that Meghan looks “rattled” or “scared” by the interaction.

However, it is not known what Meghan’s actual reaction was to the brief interaction with Sophie, and it is also unknown how members of the Royal Family feel towards the Sussexes.
According to historian Robert Lacey, who is also a consultant for the Netflix series ‘The Crown’, Harry may have been upset during his last royal engagement during the 2020 Commonwealth Day.
In his book, ‘Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult’ the historian writes that Harry and Meghan were “shunted aside” during their final appearance as working royals, and did not walk into Westminster Abbey along with other senior members of the Royal Family.
The historian has claimed that Prince William did not enter Westminster Abbey as part of the main royal procession due to wishing to be sensitive to Harry, but the church service leaflets already had no mention of either Harry or Meghan.
Robert Lacey wrote: “So there was the snub in black and white — set out for all to see. Observers also noted that Harry’s face was ‘quite tense and unsmiling’ — and that when William sat down close to him, he barely greeted his brother.”
He continued: “Throughout the service, Meghan megawatted away with her best TV smile but, as the ceremony progressed, Harry appeared to grow gloomier.
“According to one observer, ‘his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears.'”
