The Duchess of Sussex voiced her feelings and struggles as she spoke with broadcaster Tom Bradby on the last day of her tour to South Africa in 2019.At the time, Meghan was asked by the ITV journalist if she was “okay”, which prompted her to thank him, adding “not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes”. Meghan, who had become the mother of Archie Harrison just four months prior, then opened up on the “vulnerability” that many women experiences during their pregnancies and in the first stages of motherhood. She said: “Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable. So, that was made really challenging. And, then when you have a newborn, and especially as a woman, it’s a lot.” Meghan has since stepped down as senior royal alongside her husband Prince Harry and have embarked together on a new career as audio and video producers of shows for Spotify and Netflix. However, the animated show titled Pearl, which the Sussexes’ organisation Archewell had announced last summer has been reportedly axed by Netflix as part of a new strategy being adopted by the streaming giant regarding cartoons and animated shows. Pearl was to focus on the adventure of a 12-year-old girl inspired by influential women from history, and many royal watchers thought Meghan may have drawn inspiration from herself in the creation of the programme. Commenting on the reported decision made by Netflix, royal author Angela Levin wrote on Twitter: “Wasn’t Pearl, the animated series that Netflix has dropped, to have been Meghan’s own story of being inspired by other women. Life as a non-royal can be tough.”
