Royal fans were left awe-struck after a video of Prince William leading Kate Middleton through a cheering crowd during a Celtics game in Boston. Just a few hours after landing in Boston on Wednesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales headed to an NBA game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat at TD Garden.

The two sat courtside with former Harvard basketball player and Massachusetts Gov-elect Maura Healey ― who also played professionally ― and visited with members of the Celtics family and the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.

In the video, William, 40, is seen putting his hand on Kate’s back as the couple walked through the crown to attend the game.

A fan tweeted: “A hand on her back as Prince William and Princess Catherine arrive at the Celtics game.”

Reportedly, no public displays of affection is largely considered to be an unwritten rule for members of the Royal Family.

Although public displays of affection aren’t technically banned, it is rare to see royals engaging in such behaviour.

This is not the first time that the Prince and Princess of Wales have displayed their affection towards each other publicly.

In 2011, Kate Middleton and Prince William visited the new Oak Centre for Children and Young People at Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, England.

She was seen with her hand on her husband’s back.

While attending the 2012 wedding of Emily McCorquodale and James Hutt in Grantham, England, Prince William could be seen with his hand on Kate’s back.

Meanwhile, earlier during the day, the royal couple paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II shortly after touching down on American soil.

This is the first time they have been in the US since 2014.

Prince William said: “Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and are extremely grateful to Gov Baker and the first lady of Massachusetts for their warm welcome into Boston.

“On this, our first overseas visit since the death of my grandmother, I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly of Boston for their many tributes paid to the late Queen.

“She remembered her 1976 Bicentennial visit with great fondness.”

He continued: “My grandmother was one of life’s optimists. And so am I.

“That is why last year we launched the Earthshot Prize with the ambition to create a truly global platform to inspire hope and urgent optimism as we look to save the future of our planet.”
