Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey saw the couple make a number of incendiary claims against the Royal Family, Harry’s own family. The pair accused an unnamed family member of racism and claimed the Duchess was not supported when she was feeling suicidal. Since the two-hour interview aired peace talks between Harry and his family have been going on behind the scenes, but a commentator has warned the efforts may prove futile.
Petronella Wyatt, an author and journalist, has urged Prince William to stop “reaching out” to his younger brother.
In a damning column against the Sussexes’, she accused the pair of failing to uphold their “duty” – both duty to the monarchy and familial duty.
Writing in the Sun, Ms Wyatt said the Oprah interview had both shocked and hurt the Duke of Cambridge.
She said: “Along with his anger at Harry’s betrayal, what irks William is his brother’s claim, aired on the Oprah moanfest, that he is ‘trapped’ in the Royal Family — a field hand and bond servant to ‘duty’.
She continued: “It pains me to say it, William, but I could have told you so.
“Not until the parched California hills freeze over will there be a reconciliation between you and the Prince of Sighs and Mother Teresa of Montecito.”
Ms Wyatt continued to warn the Duke, who is second in line to the throne, that reconciliation with his brother is off the cards.
She said: “As Prince William must realise, painful though it is to this increasingly impressive young man, a reconciliation just ain’t going to happen.
JUST IN: Meghan’s claim to Gayle King of Palace briefing disputed
“Remember that Meghan and her haunted hubby have accused the Windsors of racism.
“How would their new, ethnic minority fan base feel if such a crime was forgiven?
“And what of poor Kate, painted as some snobby creature out of Downton Abbey, who makes poor American girls cry.
“How could Meghan possibly make it up with such a monster?

As a result, the journalist urged William to move on and put the Sussex drama behind him.
She said: “No, there is nothing in it for the Poseurs over the Water.
“I implore you, William, stop ‘reaching out’ to this pair.
“Nothing’s sacred to them.
“Not loyalty, not discretion and certainly not duty.”
Last week US journalist Gayle King, a friend of Meghan’s, revealed Harry had spoken to William and Charles over the phone.
But the anchor said the talks had proved unproductive so far.
Speaking on the CBS This Morning show, Ms King said: “Well, I did actually call them [Meghan and Harry] to see how they were feeling, it’s true, Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father, too.
“The word I was given was, those conversations were not productive but they are glad they at least started a conversation.”
