Bosses are issuing a set of 10 to mark 70 years of the naughty schoolboy. Six, above, are based on images from the Beano cartoon including a black-and-white strip from 1951 – the year it began – and Dennis adopting his faithful dog Gnasher.

Four others, by current artist Nigel Parkinson, are from a comic strip written for Royal Mail that focuses on his birthday.

The firm’s Natasha Ayivor said it “is delighted to be honouring Dennis and Gnasher with stamps as a birthday present”.
