Royal snub: Was Prince Harry ousted from Prince William’s mental health project?

Before Prince Harry met Meghan Markle he often played the third wheel to Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and even helped launch a mental health project with them in 2016. The Heads Together initiative saw the royal trio pledge to combat the stigma around mental health, a cause both brothers remain dedicated to. However, Prince Harry is conspicuously absent from Prince William’s latest mental health plug which will be broadcast at football stadiums this weekend.

Why does Prince Harry not feature in Prince William’s latest mental health project?

While Prince Harry is a vocal advocate for mental health he does not play a part in Wills’ new bid to address the matter with football fans.

Despite being instrumental in the Heads Together launch in 2016, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are now more focussed on their own projects, which address mental health in different ways.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently in Canada where they have been enjoying a six-week break from the royal bubble.

Prince Harry is unlikely to have been invited to take part in Prince William’s latest initiative as it hinges on the fact Wills is president of the Football Association (FA).

The FA has teamed up with Public Health England’s (PHE) Every Mind Matters and Heads Together’s Heads Up campaign to create the new film encouraging football fans to confront their mental health.

In the one minute video, which will be played ahead of FA games, Prince William says: ”In life, as in football, we all go through highs and lows.

“We can all sometimes feel anxious or stressed. At moments even the little things can seem a struggle. But we can all start to change things.

“Every Mind Matters and Heads Up will show you the simple steps you can take to look after your mental health – helping to boost your mood, improve your sleep and feel ready for life’s ups and downs.”

This spring it was revealed Meghan and Prince Harry were splitting from Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal Foundation in order to pursue their own charitable project.

The Sussexes are reported to be planning an official launch of their Sussex Royal Foundation later this year.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The Sussexes are currently on a six-week break.”

“A US launch of their foundation Sussex Royal is rumoured for 2020.

“An official visit to the USA in the New Year would in my view be a very good idea and emphasise their extraordinary global charitable reach.”

Meghan and Harry are understood to have been busy rallying together influential contacts during their time away from the royal bubble.

Earlier this year Prince Harry announced his plans for a TV series about mental health with American star Oprah Winfrey.

US native Meghan is believed to want to give their Sussex Royal brand a boost over the pond.

Speaking on Yahoo’s The Royal Box, The Sun’s royal correspondent, Emily Andrews said: “This project with Oprah, whilst it’s not going to be the first initiative of Sussex Royal, is a big push they are doing in the America market to try and attract donors for their new foundation.”

“We know Doria and Meghan are very close, Doria has been a very special and intrinsic part of Archie’s life and it would make sense if they bought someplace out in LA.”

“Somewhere where they could go for holidays, school holidays and Doria could stay, too.”
