Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson split in 1992 and officially divorced in 1996 but they remained amicable after their separation. The couple have two children together, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
Following their split, the Duchess of York rented a number of places after leaving Sunninghill Park but later moved back in with her ex-husband Andrew at the Royal Lodge where they are still based.
Despite their divorce, the couple have remained closed and now Sarah has opened up about her relationship with Andrew.
Speaking to Polsat News, Sarah said she would stand by her ex-husband and said her “heart is her oath”.
She said: “I made a commitment that I will always follow.
“When you make that commitment, you decide to marry a prince.
“And I fell in love with him. He was a sailor, he is still.
“He was a helicopter pilot and was also a prince.
“I kept my commitment, no matter what.
“People said: you got divorced.
“They don’t know how I feel.
“Divorce is one thing, but my heart is my oath, my obligation.”
Royal author Tom Quinn claimed their split caused “long-lasting” repercussions for their daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, who were four and two at the time.

Speaking of the Duke and Duchess of York’s divorce, Mr Quinn said: “Beatrice and Eugenie had a very odd childhood, where their parents, on the face of it, remained friends but they were seeing other people from quite early on.
“And I think that was quite probably damaging in a subtle but kind of long-lasting way.”
During her visit to Poland, Sarah opened a medical centre and carried out charity work but has since returned to the UK.
