A London secondary school has been evacuated after receiving a bomb threat.
Pupils were taken out of Stoke Newington School in Clissold Road at around midday today.
The school has now been closed for the afternoon while police check the premises.
Passers-by shared pictures and video on social media of the pupils being led out of the building. Several police cars were also in attendance and the road had been cordoned off.
A Met Police statement said: ‘At 11:55hrs on Thursday, 10 December, police were contacted by staff at a school in Clissold Road, Stoke Newington #Hackney.
‘The school had received a bomb threat. The school was evacuated and officers are in attendance. Cordon are in place whilst police investigate.’
A nearby leisure centre has also been shut as a precaution and people are being told to avoid the area.
A Hackney Council statement said: ‘Stoke Newington School is closing early today following an incident.
‘Staff and students have been evacuated, and the police are completing checks of the building.
‘Clissold Road and Clissold Leisure Centre are also closed. Please avoid the area while the closure is in place.’
