Boris Johnson announced he was not going to close schools at a press conference on Thursday during which he announced the latest measures to tackle the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He called it the “the worst public health crisis for a generation”.
Mr Johnson said schools are not being closed at this time because the move could make matters worse.
He said: “We are not, repeat not, closing schools now.
“The scientific advice is that this could do more harm than good at this time but of course we are keeping this under review and this again may change as the disease spreads.”
