Second knife attack in France as suspect shouts 'Allahu Akbar'

A knifeman has been shot dead by French police this morning, hours after a terror attack in Nice.

The attacker in the southeastern city of Avignon was shot dead after he threatened passers-by and police with a blade, shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’, according to local reports.

Earlier this morning, at least three people were left dead and several others injured following a knife attack this morning inside the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice, just as a service started.

The motive for the two attacks are yet to be confirmed, and it is not known if they were related.

A man has also been arrested for attacking a guard with a ‘sharp tool’ outside the French embassy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

France is still coming to terms with the beheading of 47-year-old history teacher Samuel Paty in a suburb of Paris earlier this month.

It is thought the attacker was punishing him for showing pupils controversial cartoons of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as part of a discussion on free speech.
