Smoke was reported by residents coming out of roof and windows of a commercial building around 6:48am today (December 22).
A statement was released by Lancashire Police about the incident.
The statement said: “We were contacted by the fire service at 7.41am today (December 22) who had found a large scale cannabis set up in Colne Road, Burnley.
“Work is ongoing to dismantle it. No arrests have been made.
“Enquiries are ongoing. Anybody with information can call police on 247 of December 22, 2021.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue also released a statement on the incident.
The statement said: “As there are flats above the property, crews needed to make sure that they weren’t occupied.
“They have checked and found nobody occupying the flats, allowing them to continue to locate the fire which they are now firefighting.
“We don’t know the cause of the fire but crews were initially concentrating on locating the fire and making sure there were no casualties before the investigation goes underway.”
Police have told people to avoid the area around Colne Road at the junction of Hurtley Street as the situation continues.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Please be aware there will be disruptions for most of the day around Colne Road at the junction of Hurtley Street in Burnley due to a fire in the area.
“Please try to avoid the area while we try to resolve the situation and thank you for your patience.”
