Her Majesty’s coffin left Balmoral Castle at 11am on Sunday, and was driven to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Princess Anne and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, were both seen at the palace as the Queen’s coffin was taken inside.

Anne stood by the gateway as her mother’s coffin was carried in, after accompanying the hearse on its six hour journey through Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth.

In heartbreaking pictures, Sophie is seen supporting Anne with a gentle hand on the Princess Royal’s back.

The Queen’s body will now rest at Holyroodhouse for the evening, where members of the royal household will be able to pay their respects in private.
