Prince Edward’s wife wore the all-black “Evangeline” dress by Suzannah Crabb to the poignant event. The Countess, who also owns the gown in white with a navy panel, paired the dress with minimalistic details such as a knotted straw headband.

Designer Suzannah Crabb once told Hello! about her relationship with Sophie and what working with her is like.

She said: “I deal with her [personally], which is really nice.

“And she also has a lady in waiting who’s great to work with, too. She’s super supportive.”

Sophie has been tipped to become a key member of the Royal Family, stepping up her work duties and supporting the Queen.

Commentator Russell Myers claimed the Queen may be joined by other royals in her engagements going forward.

He told Lorraine host Ranvir Singh that Sophie could be one of the royals to offer the Monarch help.

Mr Myers said: “We may see the Queen do a bit more double acts.

“So whether she will be going out with Prince William, like a couple of months ago.

“Or with Sophie Wessex who I understand has been a tremendous source of support, I understand.

“Those two get on famously well and the Queen will need that support.

“She is an incredible lady.”

Ms Singh added: “It is kind of incredible, it is incredible.

“Maybe you wonder that this sense of routine is something that the royals thrive on.”
