Southampton: Police track down owner of severed finger found outside block of flats

Police have traced the owner of a severed finger found outside a block of flats in Southampton.

Officers said a man lost the finger while trying to climb a fence after getting trapped in a courtyard area and they were concerned he may have lost a lot of blood.

The severed digit was discovered in a parking area in Lower Bannister Street, Hampshire, on Saturday morning.

The man was believed to have been drinking prior to the incident, but left the scene after a local resident gave him a towel.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: “Investigations have found a man lost the finger in an accident while trying to climb a fence after getting trapped in a courtyard area.

“However he wandered off after being given a towel by a resident.”

The man was later found after he attended hospital for treatment.

“We are pleased to say that the man who lost part of his finger in Southampton has now been traced,” said Hampshire Police on Sunday.

“The 28-year-old is receiving treatment at hospital in Salisbury for his injury after seeking medical assistance himself.”
