Stanley Johnson accused of smacking Tory MP on bottom and groping journalist

A senior Conservative MP and a journalist have both accused Boris Johnson’s dad of inappropriately touching them.

Caroline Nokes said Stanley Johnson forcefully smacked her on the backside and said she has a ‘lovely seat’ in 2003 head of him running to be a Tory MP.

The allegation prompted New Statesman journalist Ailbhe Rea to come forward and accuse him of having ‘groped’ her at the 2019 Conservative Party conference.

Ms Nokes, who has been MP for Romsey and Southampton North since 2010, was a prospective candidate for the constituency when the alleged incident took place.

The chair of the Commons Women and Equalities Committee, earlier suggested the PM’s father inappropriately touched her during the 2003 Tory conference in Blackpool.

It came as Mr Johnson senior prepared to run for the Teignbridge seat in Devon in 2005.

During a panel discussion, Ms Nokes said: ‘I’ve had male MPs stick their hands on my backside in Strangers’ Bar (in Parliament).

‘And I can remember a really prominent man smacking me on the backside about as hard as he could and going, “Oh, Romsey, you’ve got a lovely seat”.

‘Stanley Johnson did that to me ahead of the ’05 election, so it was Blackpool… 2003/4. I didn’t do anything and I feel ashamed by that… now I probably would.’

Ms Nokes told Sky News she not regards it as ‘an absolute duty’ for people to call out such behaviour when they see it.

She added: ‘Be the noisy, aggravating, aggressive woman in the room because if I’m not prepared to do that, then my daughter won’t be prepared to do that.

‘You do get to a point where you go “up with this, I will not put”.’

But, regarding the initial accusation, he told Sky News: ‘I have no recollection of Caroline Nokes at all but there you go. And no reply.’
