Savannah Brockhill, who sentenced yesterday to a minimum of 25 years for murdering the 16-month-old, is said to be being held in an isolated wing at HMP Styal in Cheshire. She is being housed there for her own safety.

The 28-year-old bouncer and security guard received her life sentence at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday.

Star’s mother, Frankie Smith, and Brockhill’s girlfriend, received an eight-year sentence for allowing her child to be killed.

Star was taken to hospital on September 22, 2020, but prosecutors said her injuries were “utterly catastrophic” and “unsurvivable”.

Sentencing, judge Mrs Justice Lambert said the “fatal punch or kick” caused the toddler to lose half the blood in her body and damaged her internal organs.

The judge added: “The level of force required to inflict these injuries must have been massive – similar to those forces associated with a road traffic accident.”

However, it was not an “isolated event”, the judge said, noting that Star had also been found to have suffered brain injuries, numerous fractures on her body and a skull fracture.

The judge said: “She was also treated with, at best, callous indifference by you both and, on many occasions, with frank cruelty.”

A source told MailOnline: “Brockhill has been put in separation in Styal for her own protection.

“She’ll be the number one target there.

“Prisoners will be queuing up to try and shank her.”

A shank is a makeshift knife, usually fashioned from bone or another item accessible in prison.

HMP Styal is a female-only prison in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

According to the Ministry of Justice, around 480 women live there.

Since 2001, at least eleven women have died in the prison.

Meanwhile, Smith could be spending even longer in prison than originally thought.

Today, care minister Gillian Keegan suggested that her sentence could be reviewed and made longer.

She described the case as “shocking” and “quite unbelievable”.

Ms Keegan said that Suella Braverman, the Attorney General, could send the matter to the Court of Appeal for the sentence to be reviewed.

She told LBC that it “doesn’t sound like” justice that the mother of Star had been handed a term of just eight years.

Ms Keegan commented: “It doesn’t sound enough, as a human being, it doesn’t sound enough.”

A spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office said: “We have received a request for these sentences to be considered under the unduly lenient sentence (ULS) scheme.

“The law officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision.”
