Sven Badzak: Man murdered in spate of London stabbings over weekend named

A young man who was stabbed to death in a spate of attacks across London over the weekend has been named.

The Met Police said Sven Badzak, 22, died in hospital after he was found with stab injuries outside a Tesco store in Willesden Lane, Kilburn, northwest London, on Saturday evening.

Detectives believe Mr Badzak and his friend, 16, were involved in an altercation with a group of males who chased the pair.

Mr Badzak’s friend became separated and the 22-year-old fell to the ground and was then attacked by some of the group, the police said.

His friend was also attacked but managed to run into a shop and remains critically ill in hospital.

Police officers and paramedics performed CPR on Mr Badzak after being called at about 5.40pm to the scene.

They took him to a central London hospital “but despite the best efforts of the emergency services he died there,” a police spokesman said.

His next of kin has been informed and formal identification is still to come, but the Met said they “can confirm he is Sven Badzak”.

An investigation has been launched by homicide detectives and they are asking anyone who was in or around the Willesden Lane and Kilburn High Road area at the time and may have witnessed the incident to get in contact.

Anybody who was in a vehicle with a dashcam at the time is asked to check it to see if they have captured any part of the attack.

Chief Inspector Guy Ellwood said: “This was a barbaric attack in a public place and the community will be rightly shocked.

“As a result, you will see more officers on the streets over the remainder of this weekend and the coming days.

“If you have any concerns then please speak to them.”

Mr Badzak’s murder was one of two across London within 24 hours, with five separate incidents on Friday evening and four on Saturday. Police do not believe they are connected.

On Friday, a 22-year-old man, who has not been identified, died at a home in Wisbeach Road, Croydon, just after 9pm after being found with stab injuries.

Earlier that evening a man was found with stab injuries at a home in Croydon and four men in their 20s attended a hospital with stab injuries after an altercation in Streatham, south London.

Later on Friday, two men in their 30s attended hospital with stab wounds after an incident in Chislehurst, southeast London, then a man in his 40s was found with a stab wound at a home in Croydon – he was arrested on suspicion of affray.

On Saturday, a man in his 20s was stabbed during a fight at around 11am in Coulsdon, Croydon, then a 24-year-old was stabbed that afternoon also in Croydon.

Additional stop and search powers were enacted overnight in Croydon.

At 6.20pm on Saturday, a 15-year-old boy was found with stab wounds at the Churchill Gardens Estate in Pimlico.

None of those who were injured are in a life-threatening condition, police said.
