Teacher forced to apologise after saying ‘good afternoon, girls’

The teacher, who wished to remain anonymous to protect the pupils, told the Mail the pupils complained because not all the girls in the class identified as female.

She added that one pupil allegedly challenged the teacher to acknowledge their pronouns. The following day, the pupils in the class reportedly changed their pronouns to they/them.

The Mail reported that the reason the pupils decided to stage a protest was that the teacher allegedly refused to acknowledge their request on usage and said she would need to involve parents if a pupil’s preferred pronouns differed from their biological sex.

Although this is the most recent incident, the teacher said the problems began in May 2021 after several year seven students complained.

Furthermore, it came less than a week after the school’s sixth form “diversity and inclusion” prefects did an assembly on gender and pronouns. As part of this assembly, students were reportedly shown a video discussing gender identities.

The teacher said: “I was told that they made placards with slogans such as “Trans Lives Matter”.

“Before the end of the week, I was in some sort of disciplinary process and the head of year was telling me I had to apologise to the girls.”

The teacher alleged that she was made to stand to one side as the head of year told the pupils that “no one here would want to hurt you” and that the pupils were “loved” by the teachers.

The teacher feels she has now been “managed out” by senior staff who refused to extend her contract at the school.
