Three fruit pickers 'raped paralytic teenager on beach'

Three fruit pickers raped a ‘paralytic’ 19-year-old woman on the beach after meeting her in a nightclub, a court heard.

Madalin-Daniel Nitu, 23, Genghiz Iasear, 27, and Ionel-Mizel Ciocan, 25, who are all Romanian farm workers and based in Chicester, are accused of attacking the woman in the early hours of March 9.

The men, who are on trial at Portsmouth Crown Court because they deny charges, claim the sex was consensual.

Rebecca Austin, prosecuting, said the teenager played drinking games including spin the bottle and took cocaine and cannabis before ending up at the Sheiks nightclub in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

There, she met Ciocan who she kissed and danced with at first.

However the teenager became increasingly unsteady on her feet and Ciocan showed a ‘predatory pattern’ by ignoring her friend and ‘refusing to leave her alone’.

Ms Austin said the woman was ‘unable to stand, swaying, very drunk and paralytic’ when she left the club and became separated from her friends.

The woman was ‘in absolutely no fit state to consent’ and the defendants would have been ‘well aware’, Ms Austin added.

The men are accused raping the woman in an alleyway and then on a beach.

A friend alerted police after finding the teenager on the beach and ‘bravely’ fighting off the defendants, including kicking one in the face.

Ms Austin said: ‘She was in a very emotional and distressed state.

‘She was crying and she told the officer she had been raped by three men.

‘She told him she had been raped both on the seafront and in an alleyway.

‘She said the males had taken her to the beach who forcefully tried to remove her clothes.’

Iasear faces three counts of rape while Ciocan and Nitu face two counts of rape.

The trial continues.
