Twitter erupts in fury after Meghan Markle blasted by Stefanie Powers over Royal role

The critique was made by actress Stefanie Powers during an interview with The Daily Beast. Ms Powers accused the Duchess of being fame seeking and argued she should adopt a lower profile.

She claimed Meghan “wants to be a star which, I’m sorry, is not what she is supposed to be doing”.

The actress continued: “Meghan’s role is not about being a star.

“Those headlines saying she was Hollywood royalty marrying British royalty – she had a role in a TV show.

“Please she’s obviously not a great actress.

“She’s not gotten the role she has taken on.

“Grace Kelly did [when she married Monaco’s Prince Rainier] but then she was Hollywood royalty, not a bit player in a minor television series.”

Ms Powers is best known for her role in the hit US mystery series Hart to Hart.

The American actress is known for her love of polo and this led to a friendship with Prince Charles.

However Meghan’s fans took to social media to responded angrily to Ms Powers comments.

Addressing Ms Powers one Twitter user commented: “You need to worry about your own life instead of attacking Meghan.

“You’re a C list actress yourself so you should’t try to shade Meghan’s career.”

Another Twitter user added: “How hurtful and unnecessary of you to slam the Duchess of Sussex, a person you have never met.

“The Duchess never claimed to be ‘Hollywood royalty’ – some of the media did.

“To insult Prince Charles’ son and wife is a slam to the whole Royal Family.”

During the interview Ms Powers also suggested Prince Harry should “get out of the job too” if he wanted to change the nature of his role.

However other social media users shared Ms Powers criticism of the Duchess.

One Twitter commentator reacted to the comments by saying “well put – direct and to the point”.
