UK's terror threat level 'to be raised to severe' meaning attack 'highly likely'

The UK’s terror threat level has been raised from substantial to severe, meaning an attack is ‘highly likely’.

It follows Monday’s shooting in Vienna by a suspected ‘Islamist terrorist’ which left four people dead.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the move was a ‘precautionary measure’ and is not based on any specific threat’.

She said: ‘The public should continue to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.’

Last week, three people died after a knife attack in France.
