The comic used a gag about the deaths of thousands of gypsies in a special screened by the streaming giant.

Now Ofcom boss Dame Melanie Dawes has told Channel 4 News she would welcome keeping tabs on Netflix.

Dame Melanie said last night: “I can certainly see that there’ll be real value in that.Yes. And so we would welcome any chance to work on that.”

She added: “I can really understand why a lot of people found that very offensive and we don’t regulate Netflix at the moment – they are underneath the Dutch regulator.

“For viewers it’s really confusing that they’ve got different standards applied.”

No10 called the joke “disturbing” but said it was a matter for Netflix.
