Petrol station owner Danni Tooth said it was vital that petrol can be delivered specifically to emergency workers. Ms Tooth said priorities have to be made for those who work in services whose job it is to keep the public safe as Britain enters its fifth day of a petrol panic buying crisis.

She told the show: “We decided today when the forecourt was crazy to open a bit later.

“9am-10:30am just to allow essential frontline workers, NHS, Police, fire to use the garage during that time.

But GMB host Susanna Reid asked: “What happens when drivers come up to the garage in those hours and they say ‘I’m desperate for the fuel’.

“But they are not an NHS or frontline worker – there are a lot of people with very good reasons to fill up aren’t there.”

Ms Tooth said: “If it is quiet on the forecourt at that time then they can fill up.

“But we are turning people away when there is a queue.

“Because we have opened specifically for the NHS, fire, police.”
