The Royal Variety Performance always boasts a star-studded lineup of acts, and some big names are always guaranteed to watch the event live in London. Members of the Royal Family have attended the event every year for decades, including the Queen on a staggering 39 occasions.
The Royal Variety Performance will return for 2021 on Thursday, November 18.
The event will be held at the Royal Albert Hall this year and hosted by TV star and comedian, Alan Carr.
Also included on the line-up this year is Sir Rod Stewart, Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Bill Bailey and Anne-Marie, among other stars.
And in the royal box, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge are expected to watch the spectacle live on behalf of the Royal Family this year.
When did the Queen last attend the Royal Variety Performance?
The Queen has not attended the Royal Variety Performance for nine years, with her last visit taking place in 2012.
However, members of the Royal Family will usually attend the performance in the monarch’s place every year.
Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Anne have all attended the performance as guests of honour in the last decade.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also attended the event in 2018 together following their marriage that year.
And Prince Charles recorded a video message for the 2020 performance, which took place during the pandemic.
In recent years, the event has firmly come under the remit of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, with their pair attending in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
Although the Cambridge’s did not attend the performance in 2020, they are scheduled to be the guests of honour at the 2021 celebration.

Will the Queen attend the Royal Variety Performance this year?
The Queen is not expected to attend the Royal Variety Performance this year, following a period of rest on doctors orders.
Kate and William’s presence at the event will be particularly significant this year, as 2021 marks the 100th year of royal patronage for the Royal Variety Performance.
The event’s patronage from the reigning monarch began in 1921 under the reign of King George V, the current Queen’s grandfather.
How many times have royals visited the Royal Variety Performance?
According to the Royal Variety Charity website, the Queen has attended more Royal Variety shows than any other royal.
The Queen has watched the show 39 times, while her late husband Prince Philip attended 29 times.
The Queen Mother attended the performance as a royal guest of honour on 26 occasions during her lifetime, while Prince Charles has attended 16 times.
