Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their first child together on Saturday, September 18. The couple’s baby daughter weighed six pounds and two ounces, Buckingham Palace confirmed. However, there has been no announcement of a royal baby name thus far.

Can the Queen block Princess Beatrice’s baby name?

Over recent decades, some royals have opted to give their children more “traditional” names as members of the Royal Family.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana opted for the name ‘William’ for their firstborn Prince, a name held by many of England’s past kings.

Prince William also opted for another king-like name, George, for his firstborn son with Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

But other royals have steered clear from traditional royal names when it comes to naming their bundles of joy.

Generally, there are no set rules royals have to stick to when naming their babies.

Also, the Queen doesn’t have to approve royal baby names, as it is understood the decision lies with the royal parents.

However, it is thought that members of the Royal Family will ask the Queen for her thoughts on a baby name out of respect.

According to reports, the Queen did not approve of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s first choice for Beatrice’s baby name when she was born in 1988.

The couple liked the name Annabel for their firstborn, but this did not meet with approval from the Queen, according to The Sun.

The Queen was also said to have disapproved of the couple’s second name choice, Victoria.

But the monarch herself was thought to have suggested the name Beatrice, which has links to Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice.

However the decision came about, the royal couple seemed to like the name, and opted to give Beatrice the full name of Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.

The middle name of Elizabeth is thought to be a touching tribute to the Queen as Prince Andrew’s mother and Beatrice’s grandmother.

Many members of the Royal Family have opted to pay tribute to the Queen with their choice of middle name for their daughters.

Princess Charlotte, Princess Beatrice, Zara Tindall and Lady Louise Windsor are just a few of the Queen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the middle name of Elizabeth.

When will Princess Beatrice’s baby name be announced?

There isn’t a timeframe royals usually announce their baby’s names within, so it could be a while before we know what Beatrice and Edoardo have named their new baby.

In the meantime, speculation is building around what name the new tot could be called, with the name Arabella favourite with one bookmaker.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “Royal fans are desperate to hear the baby name from the couple, and it’s currently Arabella that’s the name on punters’ lips.”
