A woman was found dead outside a school with serious injuries yesterday morning.
The headteacher at the school in Liverpool informed parents a ‘serious incident’ had taken place by Fazakerley Primary School.
Families were told to collect their children from a different entrance that afternoon while the road was cordoned off.
Neighbours are believed to have found the woman and called for an ambulance.
A forensic tent has also been placed in the middle of one of the cordons.
Headteacher Sharon Bennett said: ‘Due to a serious incident that has occurred within our community this morning, we are therefore unable to open our junior gate at the end of the school day.
‘As directed by Merseyside Police, we ask that you collect your child from the infant gate, outside the main entrance, at the following times.
‘We are so sorry for this and I hope you will appreciate that this is completely out of our control.
‘If you have other children in our school, you will be able to collect them all at the same time today.’
Officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that detectives are investigating following the unexplained death of a woman in Fazakerley on Tuesday, September 8.
‘At around 9am, officers were called to Dereham Crescent to reports of
a woman in her 60s having been found with serious injuries.
‘She was taken by ambulance to hospital where she was sadly pronounced
deceased a short time later.
‘Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, and her death
is currently being treated as unexplained.
‘Her next of kin have been made aware and a post mortem will take place.’
