Prospect will be balloting members at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) amid a pay dispute.

AWE, headquartered in Aldermaston, Berks, maintains Trident at HMNB Clyde in Faslane, Argyll and Bute.

Workers have rejected a combined increase of seven per cent, which included a lump sum.

No 10 said the nuclear deterrent would not be affected.
