If you fancy a last minute trip to the Lake District or one of the many beautiful sites the north has to offer, now is the time to book.
Northern Rail are selling train tickets for less than the price of a Freddo to over 50 destinations including Manchester, York and Cumbria.
Over 80,000 tickets are available for 5 and 10p on selected journeys in September.
Only a limited amount are available and will be handed out on a first come first served basis.
An Advanced ticket will set you back just 10p while under 15s will be able to travel for even cheaper at just 5p.
Manchester Airport is among the popular stations included in the offer, while journeys from Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Blackpool can also be found for just 10p.
To get your 10p ticket, customers must book in advance either through the Northern Rail website or the Northern app.
Ticket machines and ticket vending offices are not participating in the sale.
The surprise sale comes ahead of plans to hike up rail fares by 2.8% next year.
Northern Rail say the September discount is part of a strategy to deliver a better customer experience after coming under mounting criticism from commuters.
People have complained of facing constant delays and jam-packed trains despite the soaring price of train tickets.
There have been calls to bring Northern Rail under public ownership after a union warned the franchise was in serious financial ‘crisis’ and ‘likely to go bust’.
Northern Rail say they have introduced 15 new trains on the Northern network, with more improvements set to follow throughout the year and in 2020.
Tickets can be bought in advance from Monday 19 August, while all travel must take place between 1 – 30 September.

‘Now, with better trains already on the network, we want to celebrate the end of summer with an offer that gives thousands of people outstanding value travel.’
