The Queen’s granddaughter, 39, and the ex-England rugby player, 42, have named their son Lucas Philip Tindall – after his great-grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh, who recently underwent heart surgery during his longest-ever hospital stay. The moniker is also a nod to Mike’s father, who is called Philip.

Zara and Mike’s third child was born on Sunday weighing 8lbs 4oz.

A spokeswoman for the couple said: “Zara and Mike Tindall are happy to announce the birth of their third child, Lucas Philip Tindall.”

The Queen, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, are “delighted” at the new arrival.

Mike discussed the happy news on his The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast and revealed Zara gave birth on the bathroom floor.

He said: “Sunday got even better because a little baby boy arrived at my house.

“Arrived very quickly. Didn’t make it to hospital. On the bathroom floor.

“So yeah, it was running to the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get the mat on the floor, towels down, brace, brace, brace.”

Mike added that Zara’s friend Dolly, who was also at the birth of their two daughters, was present.

He said: “She was there and recognised that we wouldn’t have got to hospital in time.

“Fortunately the midwife who was going to meet us at the hospital wasn’t that far away so she drove up just as we had assumed the position and the second midwife arrived just after the head had arrived.”

The latest addition to the Tindall family is a younger brother to seven-year-old Mia and two-year-old Lena.

Mia and Lena were not around for the birth as equestrian Zara had been having contractions through the night.

One of Mike’s co-presenters joked: “Is she up and about, back on a horse?”

He replied: “As every man will say, she was a warrior as always, they always are.”

Mike joked he would be having a vasectomy, saying: “I literally was like ‘Yep, snip, snip, snip.’ I’ve got a boy. I’m out. I’m out of here.”

He added: “The best thing about being at home, the best thing was, as soon he’s wrapped up, he’s skin on skin, straight downstairs. TV room. Golf on. This is what we’re doing.”

The baby boy is the Queen and Philip’s 10th great-grandchild.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news and look forward to meeting their 10th great-grandchild when circumstances allow.”

The Duke and the monarch were recently reunited at Windsor Castle after Philip spent a month in hospital where he underwent heart surgery for a pre-existing condition.

Zara and Mike’s baby boy, who is 22nd in line to the throne, is a regular Master Tindall and is not an HRH.

The tot is also Princess Anne’s first grandson.

The Princess Royal, 70, already has five granddaughters.

Mike had joked about wanting a little boy this time around.

It comes just weeks after Princess Eugenie had her son August on February 9.
