Every year, the Association of Jewish Libraries presents its Sydney Taylor Book Award to the most “outstanding books for children and teens that authentically portray the Jewish experience.” At this year’s ceremony, on June 29, not a single children’s book about the Holocaust won a gold medal. As one of the judges, I consider this a triumph.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Alphabet Inc’s Google is set to buy Japanese smartphone payment startup Pring for more than 20 billion yen ($181.9 million), the Nikkei financial daily reported on Thursday.

Mike Pompeo’s Hot Take On Teaching Critical Race Theory Gets A Hard Fail On Twitter

Donald Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo waded into the debate about the teaching of critical race theory on Wednesday, and it did not end well.

Pompeo drew ire from across the political spectrum after tweeting it was “dangerous” to teach that the foundation of the United States was flawed.

“If we teach that the founding of the United States of America was somehow flawed. It was corrupt. It was racist. That’s really dangerous. It strikes at the very foundations of our country,” wrote the possible 2024 GOP presidential contender.

TVS launches new Ntorq 125 Race XP

The TVS Ntorq Race XP is the latest variant to join the Ntorq 125 line-up and is priced at ₹83,275. Unlike the other variants, the Race XP gets revisions to the engine, and makes a claimed 10.2hp and 10.8 Nm of torque – up 0.8hp and 0.3Nm over the other models. The Race XP is also lighter than the other Ntorq variants with a kerb weight of 116kg as against 118kg.

As a result, this version of the scooter has a claimed top speed that is higher, at 98kph, and the company says it has excellent acceleration in Race mode. The other riding mode, Street, is said to be ideal at slower speeds and it promises to increase fuel efficiency numbers.

TVS has also updated the user interface of the TVS Connect mobile application for this scooter. It will now accept over 15 different voice commands, ranging from launching navigation to changing modes, through any connected Bluetooth listening device. Lastly, it also features a new three-tone colour scheme and red-coloured alloy wheels.

KKR To Buy Home Services Platform Neighborly; Terms Not Disclosed

Global investment firm, KKR & Co. Inc. (KKR) Thursday said it has agreed to acquire Neighborly, a provider and franchisor of home service brands, from Harvest Partners. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

Neighborly is a home services platform that connects more than 10 million residential and commercial customers through a portfolio of 28 brands. These include plumbing, pest control, restoration, electrical, cleaning, HVAC, home inspection and many more. It has a network of more than 4,800 franchises both in the U.S. and internationally.

KKR said it is making the investment in Neighborly from its North American private equity fund.

In the deal, Harris Williams is acting as financial advisor to Neighborly, with White & Case acting as a legal advisor.

BNY Mellon To Buy Milestone Group; Financial Terms Undisclosed

Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (BK) Thursday said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Milestone Group, a provider of fund management technology. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Closing of the acquisition is subject to customary conditions and approvals and is expected to occur in the second half of 2021.

BNY Mellon noted that Milestone’s pControl platform is widely recognized as an industry leader in fund and investment automation.

With the purchase of Milestone, BNY Mellon expects to advance the digitization and automation of core accounting and asset services, delivering increased accuracy and timeliness.

Both companies had formed an alliance over a year back to create a suite of oversight and contingent net asset value or NAV services for asset managers and asset owners seeking independent oversight and backup NAV capabilities.
