Oil Prices Extend Gains For Fifth Day

Oil prices rose for the fifth day running on Friday to hover near four-week highs amid an improved demand outlook.

Brent crude for June settlement rose 27 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $67.21 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 24 cents, or 0.4 percent, at $63.70.

Oil prices remain on course for a weekly gain of more than 6 percent as strong U.S. and Chinese economic data bolstered expectations of a solid global economic rebound.

Bullish EIA inventory report, supply curbs by OPEC and its allies, together called OPEC+, coupled with vaccination efforts that are well underway in the United States and many other developed countries also helped lift demand outlook for crude.

The IEA and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries this week made upward revisions to their global oil demand growth forecasts as countries start to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Geopolitical tensions remained in focus after the Biden administration announced a range of retaliatory measures against Russia on Thursday, including sanctions and diplomatic expulsions, in response to Moscow’s alleged election interference, a widespread hacking campaign and other malign activity.

Iran has successfully produced 60% enriched uranium, top politician says — its highest level ever

  • The speaker of Iran’s parliament said the country had successfully enriched uranium to 60%.
  • That is the country’s highest level of enrichment yet.
  • Iran had not previously enriched uranium higher than 20%, and 90% would be weapons-grade level.

The speaker of Iran’s parliament said the country had successfully enriched uranium to its highest level yet.

Mohammad Qalibaf  tweeted on Friday morning: “I am proud to announce that at 00:40 … Iranian scientists were able to produce 60% enriched uranium,” Reuters reported.

As Insider’s John Haltiwanger previously reported, Iran had not previously enriched uranium higher than 20%.

Ninety percent-enriched uranium is weapons-grade level, and the 2015 nuclear deal sets the limit on uranium enrichment at 3.67%.

Iran had said on Thursday that it would start enriching uranium up to 60% purity after an attack on its Natanz nuclear facility.

Iran blamed Israel for that attack, though Israel has not claimed responsibility.

Iran’s enriching higher levels of uranium could complicate talks between Iran and the US on reviving the nuclear deal.

Experts say the attack on the nuclear facility was part of Israel effort to undermine the move to revive the deal.

Fox Host Flames GOP Gov. Kristi Noem For Awful ‘Message To Illegal Immigrants’

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s (R) “message to illegal immigrants” drew a sharp response from Fox Business host Lisa Kennedy Montgomery.

Noem, who ex-President Donald Trump has hyped as a potential GOP presidential candidate, bombastically declared on Twitter that her state “won’t be taking any illegal immigrants that the Biden Administration wants to relocate” after the White House requested states house migrant children in their foster systems. Other GOP governors have also rejected the request.

“My message to illegal immigrants… call me when you’re an American,” Noem added.

Kennedy hit back at Noem’s inflammatory rhetoric on Thursday’s broadcast of her eponymous show.

“Uhm. So, Gov. Noem, call me when you’re not an a-hole. Oh? You’re never gonna call me? ’Kay,” Kennedy said in a video published by Mediaite. “Now, listen, we clearly need to fix the immigration system, so much is broken here, but is this really the way to do it?”

“Everyone has managed to screw this up. No one has any real plans. No one’s taken it seriously. The vice president is not taking it seriously,” Kennedy added.

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld Attacks CNN With A Date Rape Analogy

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld on Thursday likened watching CNN to being date raped.

Gutfeld, whose new show “Gutfeld!” is billed as a conservative alternative to late-night TV, attacked CNN over an attempted sting on the network by right-wing provocateur James O’Keefe, who has now been banned from Twitter.

“For the viewers, every day is a phony Tinder date with CNN,” said Gutfeld, who also co-hosts “The Five” on the widely watched conservative network.

“Every night they lie to you about their intentions and try to scare you into thinking maybe you should stay the night with them,” he continued.

Then came the date rape analogy:

“CNN is like a guy who gets you wasted on purpose and you wake up the night afterwards … to see the election that Biden won and you can’t remember how it all happened. CNN got you liquored up on lies.”
