Junk food firms could face TOTAL advertising ban if they don't stop marketing to youngsters

Experts say the barrage of unhealthy promotions seen by children online and on social media is fuelling the obesity crisis.

The Advertising Standards Authority bans marketing where kids make up a quarter or more of the audience.

But the launch of a World Health Organisation report into digital marketing heard that firms exploit loopholes by claiming they are targeting fans of celebrities.

Prof Nick Sheron, a clinical advisor to Public Health England, said ministers were failing to protect children.

He added: “Government should say, ‘Show you are protecting children from exposure to marketing, and if not, we will not allow you to market your products’.”

The ASA said it was monitoring kids’ exposure.
