Flight Cancellations At Miami International Airport Leave Many Stranded

Several cancellations at Miami International Airport due to bad weather left thousands of passengers stranded at the airport. The passengers were left with no access to hotels due to lack of vacancies.

Miami International Airport reported that 70 flights were delayed and 142 flights canceled due to severe thunderstorms in central and south Florida since noon Sunday. Several flights are also expected to be canceled and delayed on Monday.

The airport has asked passengers to check with their airlines before coming to the airport because more cancellations or delays might be possible.

Twins-Red Sox game postponed in wake of Daunte Wright shooting

The Minnesota Twins have postponed their home game Monday against the Boston Red Sox out of concern for the safety of fans and players in the wake of a fatal police shooting in a nearby Minneapolis suburb on Sunday.

The Twins released a statement shortly after the game was scheduled to start at 1:10 p.m. CT:

“Out of respect for the tragic events that occurred yesterday in Brooklyn Center, and following the additional details in this evolving situation, the Minnesota Twins have decided it is in the best interests of our fans, staff, players and community to not play today’s game," the team said.

"The decision was made by the Minnesota Twins after consultation with Major League Baseball, and local and state officials. … The Minnesota Twins organization extends its sympathies to the family of Daunte Wright.”

Earlier Monday, police released the body camera footage from the officer who fatally shot Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, at a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, roughly eight miles away from Target Field.

Police responded to protests Sunday with riot gear as demonstrators gathered in the city, mourning Wright's death.

Red Wings trade Anthony Mantha to Capitals for Jakub Vrana, draft picks, more

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman made a major move to stoke the rebuild.

He traded Anthony Mantha to the Washington Capitals in return for a first-round pick in 2021, a second-round pick in 2022 and forwards Jakub Vrana and Richard Panik.

Vrana is a former first-round pick. He has 11 goals and 14 assists in 39 games. Panik has three goals and six assists in 36 games.

It was a bold move by Yzerman, trading a 6-foot-5, 234-pound forward who he signed to a four-year, $22.8 million contract in the offseason. But Mantha, 26, performed this season as he has his entire NHL career: Inconsistently. Given his size and skill he should be noticed regularly, but there were games when his effort lacked.

Crude Oil Futures Settle Modestly Higher

Crude oil prices moved higher on Monday despite concerns about outlook for energy demand amid reports showing spikes in coronoavirus cases in several parts of Asia and Europe.

Progress in vaccination rollout and reports about an attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities helped lift oil prices.

Traders also reacted to Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s comments in an interview with CBS on Sunday that the U.S. economy is poised for an extended period of strong growth and hiring even though the coronavirus still poses some risk.

West Texas Intermediate Crude oil futures for May ended up $0.38 or about 0.6% at $59.70 an ounce.
