DUBAI (BLOOMBERG, REUTERS) – A container exploded on a commercial ship docked at Jebel Ali port in Dubai, the government-run Dubai Media Office (DMO) said in a tweet late on Wednesday (July 7).
The massive blast that lit up the city happened at the port just after midnight local time, resulting in no casualties, the Dubai Media Office said on Twitter.
Videos on social media showed fire and debris from the blast scattered around the port.
Officials later said the blaze had been brought under control.
Jebel Ali port is now operating normally after blast, Arabiya reported.
The port is the largest in the Middle East and a key centre for trade in the United Arab Emirates.
The blast happened amid increased tensions in the region due to Iran’s nuclear programme.
