The Shadow Social Care Minister was grilled by LBC presenter Iain Dale on the Labour Party’s alternative to the Government’s social care reforms. After Ms Kendall offered up a list of vague demands including a “big reform of services,” Mr Dale put the Labour MP on the spot dismissing the answer as too “soundbitey”.

Ms Kendall said: “Well, real reform of social care would deal with the staff shortages.

“It would give support to families who were at breaking point trying to look after their loved ones.

“We would have a big reform of services that actually helps people.”

The host interrupted: “But what does that all mean? Because it sounds too soundbitey.

The Shadow Social Care Minister responded: “Well, it’s not a soundbite saying you want care workers to have decent pay.”

“It is, it’s motherhood and apple pie,” blasted Mr Dale.

“We’d all like that, we’d all like everyone to have decent wages.

In response, Ms Kendall asked where the Government’s plan on social care was.

She asked: “What’s the plan on social care?

“Where’s the 10-year plan on the NHS? Why aren’t they together?”

Mr Dale demanded: “What is your plan?”

The Labour MP replied: “You probably haven’t read any of my speeches or articles Iain, and I wouldn’t blame you if you haven’t.”
