Matt Hancock self-isolating after coronavirus scare hours after major No10 briefing

Matt Hancock reveals that he will be self isolating for six days

The Health Secretary is required to remain at home until Sunday after being alerted of his close contact by the NHS app. He has been ordered to stay at home despite already having had the virus last spring.

He said: “Last night I was pinged by the NHS Coronavirus App, so that means I’ll be self-isolating at home, not leaving the house at all until Sunday.

“This is perhaps the most important part of all social distancing, because I know from the app that I’ve been in close contact with somebody who’s tested positive, and this is how we break the chains of transmission.

“So you must follow these rules, like I’m going to.

“I’ve got to work from home for the next six days, and together, by doing this, by following this, and all the other panoply of rules that we’ve had to put in place, we can get through this and beat this virus.”

The Health Secretary became infected with coronavirus last March near the start of the pandemic.

He described his symptoms as not “too bad” but did lose his sense of taste and smell.

Even those who have previously had coronavirus are required to self-isolate under Government restrictions in order to help curb the spread of the virus.
