Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson has revealed he is terrified his victim will sue him, leaving him in financial ruin – as vile trolls target the teenager online.

The 31-year-old, who lives in a seven-bedroom mansion in County Durham, is desperately trying to keep his finances in tact as his sporting career lies in tatters.

While behind bars he is reported to have bought up property, registering it with relatives, in order to keep himself afloat following his release.

Johnson (pictured while on trial in 2016), who once played for England, now faces an uphill battle to try to resurrect his football career, after all of the football league clubs in the area of his home told the Mail they would not contemplate signing him

But he is now afraid his teenage victim, who he was convicted of grooming in 2016, will deplete what is left of his remaining finances, as reported by The Sun.

With a source telling the newspaper: ‘Obviously it appears as if he can afford the money. But he hasn’t got a job, he isn’t on £60,000 a week now and the future doesn’t look great.

‘He is relying on the money he built up before he got arrested to keep him going. But if she makes a claim it could ruin that.’

The former Sunderland winger served just half of the six-year sentence behind bars. He was jailed for grooming, kissing and touching a 15-year-old fan.

He remains on licence and, as part of his release conditions, he will no longer be permitted to spend time alone with his daughter.

Johnson is now hiding away in his £2million mansion, which is said to have a bowling alley, swimming pool and football nets in the back garden.

It also emerged today that his victim, who was 15 at the time of the offences, has once again been identified and targeted by trolls online.

That’s according to The Mirror, which has revealed that police are investigating after a series of cruel comments were made about her online around the time the footballer was released from jail on Friday.

Two social media accounts are under scrutiny by police, with detectives warning that anyone who names the victim – in contravention of her lifelong anonymity under the sexual offences act – will face action.

With police telling the Sunday People: ‘All victims of sexual offences have lifetime anonymity.

‘Anyone who publishes anything which identifies a victim is committing a criminal act and we will take action.’

At the time of his conviction the victim faced similar issues, releasing a statement saying: ‘The gossip on social media and hearing all the horrible names that people have been calling me has been devastating to me, my friends and my family.’

The news comes as the sister of disgraced footballer Adam Johnson was yesterday seen arriving at his home alongside a van full of wine, as family celebrations continue following his release from prison.

Adam Johnson’s sister, Faye, was pictured being driven to the 31-year-old footballer’s home, located in an upmarket village in County Durham, yesterday afternoon

It comes just days after she was seen with ‘welcome home balloons’, amid reports she has been planning a party for her brother

Johnson’s father, Dave Johnson, drove him away from HMP Moorland just after midnight and his van (pictured) later arrived at the footballer’s home in an upmarket village in County Durham

And just days earlier was seen with ‘welcome home balloons’, amid reports she had been planning a party for her brother to celebrate his release from prison on Friday.

Johnson, who once played for England, is now facing an uphill battle to try to resurrect his football career, after all of the football league clubs in the area of his home told the Mail they would not contemplate signing him.

He has not been issued with a criminal tag but will be subject to strict licence conditions, including keeping in touch with a supervisor and living permanently at his address.

He will only be allowed to take up work if his supervisor approves it, and police will examine any overseas travel plans before he is allowed to leave the UK.

Johnson will also have more stringent conditions under the terms of the sex offenders’ register, which he will sign for at least 15 years.

As well as not being permitted to see his daughter or other children unsupervised, he will have to hand over his bank card in order to prevent him accessing paid-for porn sites.
