Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Democrats for not putting in enough of an effort to win over Latino voters after Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden underperformed with Hispanics in states like Florida in the 2020 race.
“I won’t comment much on tonight’s results as they are evolving and ongoing, but I will say we’ve been sounding the alarm about Dem vulnerabilities w/ Latinos for a long, long time,” Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said in a tweet on election night.
The congresswoman added, “There is a strategy and a path, but the necessary effort simply hasn’t been put in.”
“We have work to do,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a follow-up tweet where she linked to a Yahoo News article headlined, “Biden campaign doesn’t consider Latinos ‘part of their path to victory,’ political operatives say.”
Biden underperformed in several largely Latino-populated counties in the Sunshine State as compared to 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, helping President Trump secure the state’s 29 Electoral College votes.
Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Democratic socialist, won re-election to a second term Tuesday night in the 14th Congressional District.
