Baby dies in Wellington emergency housing

A baby has died at an emergency housing provider in central Wellington.

Wellington City Mission staff were called to an address on Manners St this morning by a mother who discovered her child wasn’t breathing.

Staff immediately called emergency services, but they were unable to resuscitate the child.

Police have confirmed they were called to a property on Manners St at 9.40am today. They do not believe the death was suspicious.

Wellington City Missioner Murray Edridge says they are providing support to the family and staff.

He says it’s a huge tragedy for everyone involved.
