Bloke drove stolen car through airport security gate and ‘tried to hijack plane’

A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly crashed a stolen car through a security gate at an airport and then ran into the cockpit of a Coast Guard plane.

36-year-old Hamilton Moreno could face federal charges after allegedly crashing through the fence at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in Pinellas County, Florida.

The incident took place at around 5am on Saturday morning before Moreno drove down the runway, the Pinellas County Sherriff’s Department said.

Police added that Moreno was using a vehicle that had reportedly been stolen earlier that evening.

Staff at the airport started following Moreno during the incident, but he was able to speed away and crash into the security gate.

Afterwards, he stopped the car in a large hangar and ran into the cockpit of a C-130 aircraft which was parked inside.

It was here that police found him, arrested him and took him into custody.

Despite the bizarre series of events which unfolded, there were no injuries or property damage reported at the scene.

Moreno could also face federal charges, which are pending. His bond was set at $24,150.

An eerily similar incident occurred just one day previously concerning a driver in Pennsylvania, USA – over 1,000 miles away from the scenes in Florida.
