Boy ‘aged under ten’ dies after falling from a hotel window in Sheffield

A boy ‘aged under 10’ has died after falling from a hotel window in Sheffield.

Emergency services were called to the OYO Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street in South Yorkshire at around 2.30pm today.

The boy, who has not been identified and is believed to be under 10 years of age, fell out from a window and suffered fatal injuries.

Police said his family are being supported by specially trained officers and enquiries are in the ‘early stages’.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: ‘We are sorry to share a boy has sadly died after falling from a building in Sheffield this afternoon.

‘Emergency services were called to the Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street, Sheffield at around 2.30pm today (18 August) after reports the boy had fallen from a window.

‘The boy’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. No formal identification has taken place yet.

‘Enquiries are in the early stages to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.’

The force earlier tweeted: ‘Emergency services are currently on scene at an incident on Blonk Street, Sheffield. There is a large presence. 

‘The NCP carpark is currently closed. Please avoid the area if you can.’
