Canada seeks exemption from Trump's steel tariffs

Canada has threatened to retaliate against the United States if President Donald Trump goes ahead with plans to impose tariffs on imports of steel and aluminium.

The White House says Mexico, Canada and other countries could be spared from proposed US steel and aluminium tariffs.

President Donald Trump is expected to announce details of the plan later on Thursday.

Canada, which exports more steel to the US than any other country, has been pushing for an exemption.

Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey reports from Hamilton in the province of Ontario.
