Chipotle releases plant-based chorizo and new lifestyle bowls for a limited time

Chipotle Mexican Grill’s new menu item might make it easier to keep New Year’s plant-based eating resolutions – at least for a limited time.

The fast-casual chain announced the nationwide launch of plant-based chorizo and new lifestyle bowls Monday. Chipotle said in a news release that the new protein is “made using all real, fresh ingredients grown on a farm, not in a lab.”

The chorizo was tested in restaurants in Denver and Indianapolis in August 2021 as part of Chipotle’s stage-gate process.

Through Jan. 9, Chipotle says it is waiving the delivery fee on plant-based chorizo orders placed on the app and website with a $10 minimum order.

Free delivery is also available on orders of $10 or more with a lifestyle bowl through Jan. 31. However, the chain said higher menu prices are charged for delivery and an additional service fee is applied at checkout.

Chipotle said the plant-based chorizo is certified vegan, packed with 16 grams of protein per 4-ounce serving, and is made without artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, grains, gluten or soy.

Last January, Chipotle launched cilantro-lime cauliflower rice for a limited time.

Chipotle's new lifestyle bowls

Chipotle’s lifestyle bowls are available exclusively on the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com. Here are descriptions of the new bowls from Chipotle:

  • Whole30 Salad Bowl: Supergreens lettuce blend, plant-based chorizo, fresh tomato salsa, fajita veggies and guacamole

  • Vegetarian Bowl: Supergreens lettuce blend, pinto beans, plant-based chorizo, fresh tomato salsa, fajita veggies and cheese

  • Vegan Bowl: White rice, black beans, plant-based chorizo, corn salsa, fresh tomato salsa and shredded romaine lettuce

Starbucks Meatless Mondays

Meatless Mondays are back at Starbucks for the month of January. Every Monday, the coffee giant is offering $2 off the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich at participating stores in the U.S., while supplies last.

The offer is available on the Starbucks app, in Starbucks stores and through Starbucks Delivers on the Uber Eats app.
